Dart.Cover.3.Szekeres by Jozef-Szekeres Dart.Cover.3.Szekeres by Jozef-Szekeres
Dart.Cover.3.Szekeres

This is the 3rd issue cover art of Dart™, the comic mini series.

Clockwise left to right is:

Sirene™, Dart™, Noyade™, and Rosette™.

The girls with Dart™ are from the team called Blood Chic™, a Black Mermaid Productions creation.

I was inspired by a Michael Turner cover (Witchblade/Tomb Raider Special #1) with the two girls of that title lounging sexily on draped sheets. I wanted to see what I could do with that concept, and created this work as a result. I got to meet Michael Turner when he visited Australia last year for a comic convention. Mark Wade who was also at the same con, was very embracing.

I'm now ready for more Superhero adventures, as a creator, as an artist.

Art © and ™ 1996 Jozef Szekeres
Blood Chic™, Sirene™, Rosette™, Noyade™, all © 1996 Black Mermaid Productions.
Dart © and ™ 1996 Eric Larson

Thanks kindly. I wanted to paint the entire series as the cover art, but had to let the work be computer colored, as that was "the Image way"; which was fair enough, as Image Comics was known for their computer coloring, especially at the time of publication. I'm happy enough with the final book, but would have preferred to have colored the interior pages as well. I'm glad you enjoyed the covers and the interiors.

It think this is one of the most luscious and fun pin-up covers ever. There was so much artwork from the "Bad Girl" era in the 1990's (l loved it though) that was is such poor taste this really stands head and shoulders above the rest. However I'm surprised to find out that the Tomb Raider/ Witchblade cover inspired this. I was always sure that you were doing a send-up of Jeff Scott Campbell's Wizard Magazine (#44) cover featuring the Gen 13 girls. That cover was a gate fold so I always thought there was another half to this. I guess now I can stop looking for it. LOL.

lol, Thanks so much for the luscious comment on this work. I wanted to make it look sexy but also "gorgeous" in the way I understand that term, "luscious" works for me too...

I don't know if I have seen the "Jeff Scott Campbell's Wizard Magazine (#44) cover featuring the Gen 13 girls" he's released a lot of artwork, I have his Gen13 issues, and the DangerGirls.

I'd like to do a gatefold one day, maybe for the new Elf-Fin comic I'm doing now with Julie Ditrich...

Thank you. This was my favorite cover of this series. I wanted to paint the interior, but being an Image comic, owner of Dart Eric Larson insisted that it be computer colored, for Image comics at the time was renowned for its computer coloring.

Thank you. Sirene was MY girl, the one that I loved, she was after all a mermaid super hero. So I took extra care of her when illustrating her. Her outfit btw is designed with a Leafy Sea Dragon as inspiration. The other girls in the picture, being one of the creators of these characters, I knew how to pose them instinctively to show off their personalities, Dart was not as easy to read straight off the bat, but thankfully she had appeared in publication before in a team book called Freak Force, as well as Savage Dragon by creator of Dart...Eric Larson. Eric kindly sent all the published copies of Freak Force, plus copies of issues she appeared in Savage Dragon, and I got a great insight into how she is in body language and stance, so I put that knowledge of her into this artwork. Rosette, is my super hero elf character, so you are looking at elfin eyes with her.

I adore their hair as well *wishes she had long flowing locks herself*
I like it how they are in all different positions, I really like how one character is looking at us from upsidown, it is rather cute and disarming.

Thank you. I love hair play, I've made sure that the dolls I create have long hair to play with. Thinking up the positions for them was fun. Having Rosette on her back was one of the points of inspiration from the Michael Turner's cover art that he did that I mention in my artists comment, but I did a new pose of course.

Noyade is really beautiful, but I especially love how muscular Dart is! All of their hair is gorgeous though! Hair is a real weakness for me, and you do it so beautifully!

Thank you. I think Noyade is beautiful too. Dart is muscular, more so then any of the female characters she is with, they complimented each other. Glad you like the hair...I loved doing it, it's like playing.
